Group 70 International Hires Silas Haglund as Graphics and Document Specialist

HONOLULU – www.group70int.com – Hawaii’s leading design firm Group 70 International (G70) announced the addition of Silas Haglund as graphics and document specialist. In this role, Haglund provides marketing support for the firm, where he designs, improves and streamlines ads, architectural renderings, site plans, concepts, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other official documents for G70 and its clients.

He is also responsible for updating and maintaining the company’s website. Haglund holds more than six years in graphic design where, prior to joining G70, he served as a graphics and production specialist for Black Sand Publishing in Honolulu. Haglund received his Associates Degree in commercial arts from Madison Area Technical College.

Keith Vieira Joins Shidler College of Business as Executive-in-Residence

The University of Hawaii at Manoa Shidler College of Business has appointed Keith Vieira as an Executive-in-Residence beginning this Fall 2014 semester. Vieira was the former Senior Vice President of Starwood Hotels and Resorts. He is currently a Principal with KV & Associates, Hospitality Consulting, assisting clients in Hawaii, French Polynesia and Samoa.

The program will feature curriculum developed by LearningBiz LLC and is made possible thanks to a grant by the State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations

This fall Retail Merchants of Hawai‘i (RMH) will kick off a new training, specifically tailored to retail industry professionals. The program highlights customer service and sales management training. Developed by LearningBiz, LLC, one of the state’s leading training providers, the training program will be available to retail professionals across the state thanks to a $125,000 grant from the State Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

HONOLULU – The Aloha Festivals proudly presents its 2014 merchandise collection to mark its 68th year celebrating Hawaiian culture and heritage. The 2014 Aloha Festivals merchandise – ribbons, power bands and T-shirts – reflects the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s mission to promote world peace through its sailing canoe Hōkūleʻa in honor of this year’s theme “Maluhia Honua – World Peace With Aloha.”

“We invite the public to join us in celebrating and supporting Hawaii’s premier kamaʻaina festival,” said Helene “Sam” Shenkus, co-chair of the Aloha Festivals board of directors. “The proceeds made from the Aloha Festivals ribbons and power bands allow us to share Hawaii’s history and culture with the community through our free events during the month of September.”

Pan-Pacific Festival Names Christine Kubota Advisory Committee Chair

HONOLULU – Christine Kubota has been appointed as the new Chair of the Pan-Pacific Festival Advisory Committee. Kubota’s role is to lead the efforts for Pan-Pacific Festival events, be a liaison with community partners and provide strategic fundraising support. She replaces Benjamin Fukumoto, who served as the chairman for the past nine years.

Kubota is an attorney at Damon Key Leong Kupchak Hastert practicing in corporate, commercial and real estate law since 1988. Her practice also includes immigration law, estate planning and employment matters that address the needs of her Japanese clients. Kubota graduated from Chaminade University with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Asian Studies and from McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific with a juris doctor degree.

Atlas Insurance Appoints Bonnie-Lee Pang as Senior VP and Melanie Nordgran as Assistant VP

Atlas Insurance Agency, Inc., Hawaii’s largest insurance agency, has appointed Bonnie-Lee Pang as Senior Vice President and Melanie Nordgran as Assistant Vice President in its Benefits Consulting Division. 

Pang has more than 20 years of Benefit Consulting experience and will continue to manage the company’s Benefits Consulting Division, one of the largest in Hawaii.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Redlands in Redlands, California, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in Honolulu and is a graduate of Punahou School. Her professional affiliations include: Board Member, Punahou Alumni Association (PAA); Member, State Health Planning and Development Agency (SHPDA) - Windward Subarea Committee; Member, Society of Human Resources Managers (SHRM); and Past President, Hawaii Association of Health Underwriters (HAHU).
