From his dorm room at Texas Christian University, Matthew Moyers told Hawaii News Now he was the target of an unprovoked attack.
"He grabbed a fifth of alcohol and swung it, hit me from behind. Hit me right here in the temple. So that knocked me out," he said via Skype.
Moyers said the beating sent him to the hospital.
"I was bleeding out of my mouth and my nose. I was on the ground and he came back over to my unconscious body and he started stomping on me," he said.
Honolulu police said on July 17, Moyers and some friends were standing on the shoreline near the Outrigger hotel at one in the morning.
"The male approached the group, asked them if they wanted to buy dugs. When they refused, he challenged them to a fight. He became mad," said Sgt. Kim Buffett of CrimeStoppers.
She said the attacker struck two girls that were in the group, then he went after Moyers.
