Waikiki Health Center Expands Services with Addition of PATH Clinic | Health
Waikiki Health Center recently acquired PATH Clinic, which was previously an independent nonprofit organization. PATH Clinic, an acronym for Perinatal Addiction Treatment of Hawaii, provides comprehensive prenatal and postpartum medical and social services to women with past or present addiction issues. Dr. Tricia Wright, the clinic’s founder and OB/GYN, will continue to see patients and work with the health center in helping each woman progress on a path to health and capable parenting.
Services are provided to women who often avoid prenatal care because they feel uncomfortable or afraid; however, this places the health of the mothers and babies at risk. The clinic offers a comfortable, welcoming environment and supportive, nonjudgmental care. Patients feel at ease and are more likely to receive regular care.
“Waikiki Health Center is a healthcare home for many in our community,” said Sheila Beckham, RD, MPH, Waikiki Health Center’s executive director. “Being able to offer these unique and valuable services is exciting. We want to make sure women who turn to PATH Clinic for services, as well as their families, receive the care and support they need.”
At PATH Clinic, Waikiki Health Center provides primary medical care, prenatal and post-partum care, obstetric and gynecologic care, ultrasounds and birth control. In addition to medical care, PATH Clinic provides social services and support, including health education, counseling, preconception planning, help quitting tobacco, and referrals to pediatric care. Kelly Myers, LCSW has been hired to manage the social service programs and provide mental health and addictions support. Since 2003, Myers has worked with underserved populations, most of whom struggle with mental health or addiction issues.
Established in 1967, Waikiki Health Center provides a “health care home” to the people of Oahu. The agency’s mission is to provide quality medical and social services that are accessible and affordable for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Services are provided at the main clinic in Waikiki, satellite clinic in Haleiwa, and across Oahu through outreach programs: Care-A-Van, Youth Outreach (YO) and Friendly Neighbors.
