Waikiki Health Center granted $6K by NFL charities to help youth

NFL Charities recently awarded the Waikiki Health Center with a $6,000 grant for its Youth Outreach (YO) GED Preparatory Program.

Since 2008, NFL Charities has partnered up with the Waikiki Health Center to provide homeless teens with a second chance to earn an education and seek further learning opportunities.

"Homeless teens are aware that education is their key to a more secure future," Waikiki Health Center director of youth and senior services Jeff Kaplan said. "YO clients, who are age 21 and under, cite obtaining a high school diploma as their primary goal."

In addition to its GED Preparatory Program, the Waikiki Health Center's Youth Outreach Program provides street outreach and drop-in medical and social services.

The Waikiki Health Center is located at 277 Ohua Avenue. For more information, call 922-4788.
